AN OVERVIEW OF OUR CLUB

Stoneleigh Athletic F.C. (SAFC) was founded in 1972 by a group of local volunteers and was a founder member of the Epsom & Ewell Youth Football League. SAFC has grown tremendously over the years; this coming season we will have 15 teams from Under 7’s through to Under 17. We have a first class reputation in the local football community. We pride ourselves on the development of individual player skills, working as a team and above all, the enjoyment of participation. We welcome players of all abilities.

We offer training for boys and girls from 5 years through Academy Soccer Skills at Nonsuch Park, which provides the players for the mini soccer teams from 6 years (Under 7’s). Strong links with Coerver Coaching and Keep’s Academy (specialist training for goalkeepers) provide our players with excellent opportunities to develop their own skills and that of the team. These three partners also offer courses during school holidays, for which SAFC players enjoy discounts. Club training night takes place on Monday evenings on the Astro-pitch at Nonsuch High School for Girls, Cheam. These are excellent facilities, which are envied by many other local clubs and provide our teams with a safe and well maintained environment, in which to train. Future club developments include specific training for girls at mini soccer level and through our working relationship with Nonsuch High School for Girls, we hope to form at least two girls’ teams for the season 2007/8.

Mini soccer teams (U7’s to U10’s) playing 7 aside games, play on Saturdays and our home games are held at Court Recreation Ground, Pound Lane in Epsom. The venue provides changing facilities, toilets etc..

SAFC teams have enjoyed considerable success over the years; this last season saw all teams doing well. Two teams “did the double” winning the league cup and their premiership division titles. Several teams won promotion to the next division but moreover, all of the teams are meeting the challenge to improve their own standard of play and to move up their table against teams of similar ability.

At the end of every season we hold a Club Presentation Day, where awards for achievement and accomplishment are handed out to key individual players and teams. It is a day of pride and celebration and as a club we are very proud of each and every one of our players, whether they be cup winners or not.

Our club relies on parents volunteering their time and energy to be team managers, committee members, fund raisers and friends. We hold various events throughout the year that all parents are encouraged to attend e.g. Summer Fun Day, Christmas Party and a club barbecue. Ideas from anyone to raise funds and above all to strengthen the bond of the club are very welcome! Our team managers are also all volunteers with day jobs! They have each undertaken various levels of FA training and work together with our 2 fully qualified FA coaches, our training partners and each other to develop their own skills and that of their teams.
